Vault of Midnight Newsletter: October 23, 2011
Halloween! The Spooky Season! This holiday has always held a special place in the still beating, actual human heart we have locked in one of Vault of Midnight's many sub-catacombs.
But why? Why do Halloween and Vault of Midnight go together like so much razor blades and caramel apples? Like ghosts and sheets? Is it the costumes? We do like costumes. But that can't be it. Is it the Vault's roots in the horror comic book genre? The EC Vault of Horror series from which our humble concern partially derives its name? Or is it the fact that for one sweet day every year, the rest of the country becomes as obsessed with monsters, super-heroes, sci-fi, fantasy, make believe and weird sh!t as we are ALL THE TIME, ALL YEAR ROUND?? Perhaps, dear readers, that is closer to the mark...
At any rate, the best day of the year rapidly approaches. Please come give us a visit to kick off the season and get in The Mood.
And look what's going on:
Halloween Weekend!
Costume Contest
Our contest will run through the weekend (October 28-31) and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 1st! Just roll through the shop lookin' all sweet in your costume. We'll take your picture, make you famous, and POOF: you entered the contest.
Winner receives a $50 gift certificate and bragging rights for one year.
Past winners have definitely NOT been "cursed" with supernatural powers that have led them on strange, otherworldly adventures. While we are diligently investigating claims to the contrary, our official position at this time is that there is no direct correlation between winning the Vault of Midnight Costume Contest and the mysterious ability to, among other things, see the strange portal invisible to all others in the shop's furnace room. Please see disclaimer and liability waiver pamphlet for more information.

Local artists will be re-imaging and re-imagining covers of their favorite novels. All benefits from the show will go to 826michigan, an Ann Arbor organization which helps children develop essential reading and writing skills and is just generally awesome.
The Entire Month of November
Kung Fu Appreciation Month
Yeah. You heard me. Details are forthcoming, but please know this: You aren't ready for this month. The dopeness is...un-getreadyable. Start boning up now, sure, but don't think, for a second, that it will be enough.
Let's say this much for now: Keep your Sunday evenings free next month. Trust.
END OF SECTION: EVENTS
Due to frankly embarrassing and overwhelming popular demand, here's another segment of...
"Hey, Counterboy! What was your favorite comic this week and why was it dope?"
- Liz - The Dunwich Horror #1: I will enjoy watching these thoroughly unlikable characters be killed, one by one.
- Xmas - Near Death #2: Good crime action and hard moral choices + moral choices. Yes.
- Nick - Journey Into Mystery #630: They should have skipped all of Fear Itself and just done this book. S'awesome.
- Ian - Wonder Woman #2: Duh, obviously.
That's All! Please attend all of these events and read all of these comics! Or else!
