About The Vault
Of course, no one really knows exactly how Vault of Midnight came to be. The theories surrounding the Eisner Award winning shop's origins are as diverse the number of comics that dwell within it. And while most of the histories can be easily dismissed (reformatted flame-thrower factory, doomsday-cult-turned-nerd staff, holograms), a few bear closer examination.
The best evidence we have indicates that Vault of Midnight was formed in a type 1b supernova, probably during an interstellar war between rival comic shop-planets. Though their names have been lost to history, records of the conflict reveal that one of the powers (we'll call them the Eye of Agamotto) sought to create a perfect super weapon in the form of highly experimental, highly unstable retail location. After several unsuccessful attempts, Eye of Agamotto realized that the power necessary to create the epic, war-ending comic shop that they required could only be harnessed from an exploding sun.
EoA quickly put their plan into motion; but alas, an error in arithmetic (or sabotage?!?) resulted in tragedy! The massive blast engulfed both comic-shop planets, ending the war instantly and returning peace, once more, to that part of the galaxy.
And long after the cosmic-fire subsided, thousands of years after the Great Funny Book Collide was forgotten, a 5000 square foot, blue and green building was quietly tumbling through space, towards an unknown destination...
